Mindscape Silverlight Elements now available for preview

Mindscape has just released a preview of their Silverlight elements suite. They all look very slick, but for me the coverflow and the scheduler could be particularly useful. Maybe it’s time for me to start paying attention to Silverlight again! Silverlight 2 released

I was so busy last week that I managed to miss that the final version of Silverlight 2 was released. It's probably a suitable time to think out loud a little bit about Silverlight and it's future. Silverlight 2 Release Candidate Now Available

As the title says, the just announced RC version of Silverlight brings the final release of Silverlight 2.0 one step closer. The RC release looks packed full of fixes, and unfortunately also contains a few breaking changes. It's one of the hazards of writing code against a beta product, and something I knew would need fixing one day – and it looks like that day might have to be tomorrow! Zip Xap

A useful tip for anyone playing about with hosted Silverlight 2 applications - if for some reason you don't want to use Microsoft's free Silverlight Hosting Service, and your hosting provider has yet to register the .XAP file type in IIS, then you can simply rename your .XAP files to .ZIP. Update all your references to the .XAP file (in any .ASPX or .HTML files you're using) and you should be all good. Handy! Tags: Silverlight

Silverlight 1.1 is now Silverlight 2.0

From Scott Guthrie's blog: Previously we've been referring to this .NET-enabled Silverlight release as "Silverlight V1.1". After stepping back and looking at all the new features in it (the above list is only a subset - there are many more we aren't sharing yet), we've realized that calling it a point release doesn't really reflect the true nature of it. Consequently we have decided to change the name and refer to it as "Silverlight V2.0" going forward. Thursday Linkorama

I've had a load of tabs open in my browser for the last week, all of which are useful and interesting, but none of which justify a full post. Here they are: Scott Guthrie talking about the asp:Listiew Control which is coming in ASP.NET 3.5 - I've been working with GridViews and Repeaters over the past couple of weeks, and doing so is making me really look forward to the ListView! Silverlight 1.0 Final Release!

Wednesday, September 05, 2007 Today Microsoft announced the release of Silverlight 1.0, the fully supported version of its cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of media and rich experiences on the Web. As the above says, Silverlight 1.0 has now been released! This is a pretty important step, because it brings us one step closer to the final release of Silverlight 1.1, which is when the fun really begins. My name is Ross Hawkins and I'm a developer, consultant, business owner and writer based in Auckland, New Zealand (pictured below!). My current work revolves around ASP.NET, C#, jQuery, Ajax, SQL Server, and a mix of other Microsoft development technologies.

I also have about 15 years of experience with IBM Lotus Notes/Domino and associated technologies. While Notes/Domino is no longer my primary focus I still like to dabble and keep my skills up to date.

I own and run 2 businesses - Hawkins Consulting Services, and Ignition Development.
